Senna & Sennosides

Senna extract standardised for sennosides — from 20% nutraceutical grades to 60% USP pharmacopoeial grade.

Cassia angustifolia · Leaves & pods

Senna & Sennosides

Pharmacopoeial-grade sennoside extracts from leaf and pod, including a 60% USP grade.

Senna (Cassia angustifolia) is a pharmacopoeial laxative botanical, and its sennoside extracts are a long-established, high-volume product for CTA. We extract both leaf and pod material and standardise for total sennosides across a wide range of grades.

CTA produces 20–40% sennosides by HPLC, 20–60% by UV (BP method), and a 60% USP grade assayed by spectrofluorometry. The process library covers an extraction plan, a purified-fraction (PHD) upgradation plan, recrystallisation, an ethanol-byproduct grade and a resin-purification route — giving buyers a sennoside grade matched to either a nutraceutical or a pharmacopoeial dossier.

Our Process Depth

Why this is a CTA speciality

CTA's sennoside programme is a documented, multi-route process — a high-volume speciality:

  • Leaf and pod extraction plan
  • Purified-fraction (PHD) sennoside upgradation
  • Recrystallisation for pharmacopoeial-grade purity
  • Ethanol-byproduct grade recovery
  • Resin-based purification route
  • Multi-method assay — HPLC, UV (BP) and USP spectrofluorometry

A documented process library is what separates a speciality product from a commodity — it makes grades reproducible and lets CTA develop a custom specification with confidence.

Regulatory

Compliance

Senna is a pharmacopoeial botanical with established IP / BP / USP monographs and is permitted under FSSAI for the relevant applications. Pharmacopoeial documentation is provided on enquiry.

Note: grades, marker percentages and regulatory status are indicative and to be confirmed by CTA's technical and regulatory team before publication.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The grades differ in assay method and specification. CTA produces 20–60% sennosides by the UV (BP) method and a 60% grade compliant with the USP assay (spectrofluorometry). The right grade depends on the pharmacopoeia the buyer's dossier follows.

Both. Leaf and pod material are extracted; the source is declared on documentation, and the grade is standardised on total sennoside content.

Yes. Sennosides are an established, large-volume line, manufactured through a documented multi-route process for consistent bulk supply.
